Full Day 1
January 16, 2017
I think I know myself pretty well so I want to send a warning that this blog will probably not last too long. I do not think this will be the first and last post, but within a week or two the activity on this page will probably dwindle to posts just containing pictures, and captions if you are lucky. For now, I have the intentions of writing for anyone who cares, about my time and travels while I study abroad here in London, England. I am currently sitting in my pint size dorm room with my bunk bed (I got the top!), minimal storage, and a wonderful view of the lit up front of the Natural History Museum. My roommate and I lucked out on this view, the other option was looking down at the casino right next store where I will try to not lose too much money. I am living in one of the smaller dorms, or flats as they seem to be called, but have had opportunities to meet people in other flats through this first day of orientation today. After a 9 am fire drill, the entire program went to an Imperial College auditorium for a few hours of orientation. We heard about academics, student life, and safety, among other standard orientation topics. Classes will start on Wednesday.
I got to start off my trip with a familiar face when I met up with Tom Kelly from CMU at Piccadilly Circus (since this circus is actually just a roundabout maybe it won't close). We went to an Irish Pub, ate some heavy food and listened to some live Irish folk songs. Walking around the area after that was when I really started to feel like I was in London. What is essentially a mini Times Square was filled with people. We walked by some west end theaters and saw the facade for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The hope is that I will see the inside of those theaters too.
Tonight we have a social with our dorm, tomorrow a boat tour and more orientation.
